NEWS: I'm relaunching my webcomic
Ronin Digital Express return date, a rebrand of rent*space, and the fate of Fistful of Yen.
Few bits and bobs.
One, I’ll be relaunching my webcomic, Ronin Digital Express, May 1, 2025.
Some high-level expectation setting:
I have a full 80-something page introductory arc that I will be slowly releasing throughout the year.
You’ll have the first 30 or so pretty quickly (i.e. “issue 1”). After that, expect a few pages per episode and intermittent but steady publishing.
At the end of the first arc, I’m going to do an AMA. If you have any questions, observations, or feedback, send to: rentonhawkey@gmail.com.
There will be no ability to like or comment. I think re-stacks are still possible if you click the “share this post” button via the web.
My reasons for turning off social interactions are documented here.
Obviously, feel free to share Ronin Digital Express in any way you like. But I want to treat it like a real publication and direct all feedback to the email address in order to help me continue on the path of doing all of this for the right reasons. I’m sure you understand.
One more thing — there will be paid tiers of Ronin Digital Express at some point. But probably not until after the first arc is published in its entirety.
In the meantime, if you want to support me, you can buy prints or make a one-time donation.
Don’t forget to subscribe.
Now, let’s talk about this newsletter.
Cowboys, Spies & Samurais
Not long ago, a new acquaintance asked me what I was interested in.
I simply replied, “cowboys, spies and samurais.”
I have several projects in the pipeline, and each fall comfortably within one of those three camps. I can’t imagine myself writing outside those genres, so, I think that is what I’d like to be known for and I’m changing this publication’s name to reflect that.
Moving forward, I expect to publish here much less.
This will no longer be a craft-and-community-focused newsletter as I’m sure will come as no surprise to people who have been reading for the last year. None of that much interests me anymore.
Look instead for announcements about Ronin Digital Express, crowdfunding campaigns, new prints, and news about other comic projects. I may put out the occasional opinionated essay, but, with Ronin Digital Express keeping me busy these days, I don’t imagine having much time for that.
One last loose end…
Fistful of Yen
I have decided to delete the publication and will no longer be moving forward with the project at this time.
I had a good number of subscribers there and they will no doubt be disappointed by this news. I may write a longer post at some point detailing what went wrong there, but the fact of the matter is that I simply lost momentum and want to move on.
Since there was never any money involved in that publication (for legal reasons) I naturally do not feel any obligation to follow through. Sometimes things just don’t work out.
I may revisit it at some point in the future, but if I do, it will likely be serialized here in a different form altogether.
Now here’s some nice art, and don’t forget to subscribe.
