Hey, folks —
Quick weekender email to draw your attention to the YouTube show Blake’s Buzz, which I was on last week:
Here I participated in a roundtable with a handful of other creators wherein we talked about our projects and various other craft-related things.
I was a little worried that a panel with a bunch of people I don’t know might be kinda boring. Everyone would just sort of wait for their turn to talk about their thing and there wouldn't be a lot of engagement, discussion, or, y’know, fun.
Not so here in the least. I ended up pretty lucky because all of these guys are creative and interesting, and their projects are really unique.
We went long here (almost past midnight), and I started drinking about halfway through (yes, I think I was the only one). It was a marathon. But I really enjoyed being on.
Blake (follow him @blakesbuzz) is very passionate about the indie comic scene and promoting creators. He pulled together/hosted a great panel here; the six of us had a natural rapport, like old buddies having a poker night.
I instantly followed all of them pre-ordered their shit. I think you should, too, so here is a little roundup of who they are and the stuff they’re doing so you can get your grubby little mitts on it:
Adam Rose (@adamrose74)
Adam is a writer who has a book called COROLLARY coming out from Source Point later this month. Here’s the blurb: “In a galaxy filled with twin moons, twin suns, and twin planets, everything comes in twos. Even the people. And if your twin dies ... so do you. This is the way it's always been. So, when the Captain Andromeda’s twin loses her life in a far-off military battle, and Captain Andromeda herself DOES NOT die, needless to say, the universe demands answers. Answers that the Captain is willing to give ... to the highest bidder, of course. This is COROLLARY – a four-issue bombastic sci-fi romp.” It’s in stores April 20, grab your copy here.
Ruben Romero (@RubenTheWriter)
Ruben is a writer who has a book called The Illusion Witch coming out via Behemoth this summer. Here’s the blurb: “Aadya Locke is a world-famous illusionist traumatized by the loss of her father and son, she has become cold and disconnected from reality. Transported into Saari a fantasy world filled with magic and danger, Aadya is paired with a talking Quoll, A warrior, his son and a powerful mage. Hunted by The Three a wraith with monstrous intentions, Aadya will face her inner demons while battling real life monsters in her attempt to save herself, and Saari.” You’ll be able to tell from the interview that Ruben is a very sincere dude, and I think his book is going to have a lot of heart. You can check the book out in Previews here.
Jeff Schiller (@aJeffSchiller)
Jeff’s capacity for creating gigantic, sprawling worlds had me wiping blood from my ears after Blake’s Buzz. It’s like he has 10 fucking brains, science needs to study him. He’s also hilarious. Here’s a blurb about his project: “MAGIC POWDER is about the city of Thesz, and the faerie dust cartels that run it. Dwarves, orcs, goblins, and many other creatures fight for their spot in the one place free of Elvish law. The first arc is called ‘The Librarian's War’, and we are seeing what happens when actual magic is brought into the fold with these gangsters.” Check out his books/get them at his website.
Sean Dicker (@DickerTweets)
A fellow “do-everything-yourself-er”, Sean’s first comic is a hybrid webcomic/trade through Dauntless called Uncovered Grave. Here’s his blurb: “Uncovered Grave is the premiere work of Sean Dicker, following a twenty year old cold case of a young girl named Lilly Hill. It’s cinematic noir with the emotional intimacy to bring home the themes of regret, love, and legacy. Find out why some secrets should stay buried!” You can check out Uncovered Grave here.
That’s all for today. If you get a chance to check Blake’s Buzz out, let me know what you thought of the panel in the comments below.
I recorded another interview last night that I’m really excited about. I’ll pass that along in a few weeks. Next week, I think I owe you an NSFW goodie.
Until then —
