Super interesting. You might have been channeling the Dune books (if you've ever read them) with the drugged psychic pilot thing. I also like how you (maybe inadvertently, I dunno) made the story a bit of a Libertarian takedown: freedom is all well and good but here he is taking other people with him due to his "freedom" to be paranoid and take extreme actions about it. Everyone's freedom ends where other people's freedoms begin. Which ultimately leaves only very tight spaces for actual textbook definitions of "freedom".
And I would love to see the haunted house story sometime. We all should try things outside of our comfort zones/core interests.
