Don't worry, it's mostly pictures
No time for me today? Here are the highlights:
Learned new art tricks.
Check out this X-Men omnibus, especially if you like Euro comics.
Some lady drawings.
Good morning!
Thanks again for being early adopters of my work. It'll be worth it someday. Here's an update.
I have learned a lot of useful tricks these past few weeks.
I drew a living room in one-point perspective:
I learned how to space things out in perspective:
I learned how to draw circles:
I can draw boxes at a slight angle now (also known as two-point perspective):
And I drew this L-train one-point study, which is my first actual background (albeit rough, rough, rough):
Listen.
I know it's gonna be different when I start doing pages in the next couple weeks.
I know I'm gonna eat crow and make a lot more mistakes.
But this seems... really doable.
Also, I'm stuck on drawing the women of X-Men in swimwear lately. Since I'm off social for now, I'll post them here as exclusives, and as a reminder that I don't only draw lamps and boxes:
I know you didn't sign up to watch me draw boxes forever.
Next issue I'm aiming to have 2-3 rough pages to show.
Skip Dark Phoenix the movie, get the X-Men: The Dark Phoenix Saga omnibus.
The story is as good as everyone says, but I don't want to drone on about that. Instead, I want to talk about the reason you'd get the omnibus and not the much more affordable trade paperback, and that is the extras.
Only about 2/3rds of the omnibus is the actual story. The remaining third includes a full, unpublished alternate issue of X-Men #137 (the climax of the saga) in which Jean lives.
It also includes a "What If?" story, a bunch of promotional and development art, raw pages, and to my most pleasant surprise, a bunch of backup material drawn by British artist John Bolton.
I've never heard of Bolton before, but now I have to track down everything he has ever done. He has a very European style, and I love European comics.
I wonder how this style was received when it debuted in the mid-80s. It must have been pretty radical to see this kind of art in a superhero book.
I love it, which means I'm sure people hated it.
Also, remember when Iceman came out as gay a few years ago, causing a bit of fanboy controversy?
... based on my exegesis of X-Men #138, it had been going on for a while.
Also in #138, Kitty Pryde finally joins the school for good after being introduced several issues back, but what is she wearing?
This girl is 13 & 1/2.
That's it for this week's adventure.
As always, thank you for your support.
I don't have a Patreon, nor do I ask for donations. If you want to help me, the best thing you can do is share this content with your followers if you enjoyed it.
And even if you don't share anything, I love you 3,000 just for being here.
Back to work.
