We are, each of us, victims of my poor planning
A little bit ago, I made myself a spreadsheet titled "2021 Goals."
Listed within are goals including, "start a Patreon" and "offer commissions."
"Re-do website," "sell prints."
"Guest on some podcasts," "court reviews."
"Finish 9 episodes of Ronin Digital Express, a 10-page short, and an original 60-page OGN."
It's the end of March, and my progress has been fuck-all.
Why?
Well, I think I've spread myself a bit too thin here.
This was to be expected. If you've been following my little soap opera, you know that falling, scraping my knees, and getting back up again is kind of the theme.
I'm in the process of becoming a comic creator from scratch. I do everything myself, from the writing, art, coloring, and lettering to the marketing and engagement and relationship building.
I've gotten some great feedback on Ronin Digital Express which leads me to believe I may really have something here.
But I think I'm putting the proverbial cart before the horse, some.
I'm spending a lot of time trying to come up with pop culture things to draw in order to drive engagement on social media. Or plans for future Kickstarters or marketing pushes when I have a graphic novel to sell.
But I don't have a graphic novel to sell. I don't have anything substantive to engage with.
I'm going to take this opportunity to go back to basics. Work out in a barn somewhere, like Sly in Rocky IV.
(I can do all of that IRL pretty much)
I'm gonna go build some inventory.
When I come back, here's what I'll be able to offer:
Weekly episodes of Ronin Digital Express
Prints and other merch (floppies, stickers)
A way to financially support rent nation (i.e. a Patreon)
a newsletter-exclusive OGN I've been planning for over a year
And more.
I need some time to focus, stay off Twitter, and line it all up.
I appreciate your patience thus far.
For now, please stay subscribed. But then, go ahead and forget about me for a little bit.
When I come back, I'm hoping to come back stronger and more consistent. I just need the opportunity to untangle and focus.
I'm grateful for every one of you. Please feel free to email anytime, even just to say "hi." If you're a creator, you can DM me for an RT anytime.
One last thing: I have done some commercial work for an EDM musician, as well as contributed a short comic that will be published in the flesh, I believe this summer.
If you don't hear from me before then, I may have a few newsletters here and there briefly asking for support for those projects.
That's all for now.
Thank you for your support. It really means a lot.
Be good.
