SNEAK PEEK: test mobile episode of Ronin Digital Express.
No time for me today? Here are the highlights:
Ronin Digital Express mobile test episode.
Some behind the scenes to that end.
A few brief recommendations.
Good morning, Rent nation.
If you're new here, I'm working on a webcomic called Ronin Digital Express I'm planning to release next year on Webtoon.
I've been working on a test scene just to get used to the mobile format, and here it is:
This was instructive, to say the least.
It's me, so there were a lot of early mistakes, including this terrible first panel:
Boring as fuck, and I make no bones about it.
I was also so proud of my perspective work on panel 3 I forgot I needed to figure out a background. I thought I could fool you all with this:
Luckily, the great Dave Chisholm called bullshit on that and forced me to do the work, and he was right.
Aspiring artists, get yourself a Dave Chisholm.
What happens next?
I have a few more priorities for other projects I want to try and wrap up by the end of the year. I'll share some cool previews here, so stay tuned.
I want to do a few more test pages and promos for Ronin Digital Express as well.
Those, and an announcement for when episode 1 will be available in 2020, are forthcoming.
A couple of things I've been reading lately worth checking out:
A Study in Emerald: Rafa Albuquerque adapts Neil Gaiman's short story that reimagines Sherlock Holmes in a world where the Old Ones of H.P. Lovecraft's stories are England's Royal Family. Awesome twist ending, really hoping for more of these Gaiman adaptations from Dark Horse.
These Savage Shores (TPB): I'm a late adopter here, and was worried it was somewhat overhyped. A lot of indie books are basically high concepts treading water, but TSS lived up to the hype for me. Definitely adding Ram and Sumit to my creators to watch.
The Signature Art Of Brian Stelfreeze: Holy shit. Talk about studying at the feet of a master. Stelfreeze is a huge influence on me. Lots of art books feel a little too light on content, but this book is MEAT, and includes essays from other A-list artists sharing their appreciation of Brian's work. I would buy it again. I might, actually.
I also added a lot of new art to my own website. Superhero and pop culture stuff mostly. If you haven't been in a while, check it out here.
That's it for this week's adventure.
As always, thank you for your support.
I don't have a Patreon, nor do I ask for donations. If you want to help me, the best thing you can do is share this content with your followers if you enjoyed it.
Thanks for being here all the same.
Back to work.
